In recent years, Janneke Berendsen has conducted various empirical and literature studies in the field of inclusive and accessible art education. 
These studies focused on highlighting the lived experiences of pupils and students whose perspectives are often under-represented. In order to achieve this, the design of the studies has been based on an intersectional approach.  Below is a brief overview of some of these studies:
